Kazakhstan, Ukraine could return to $4 bln trade - Nazarbayev
ASTANA. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev told Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko at the meeting in Kyiv on Monday that the two countries need to restore and further increase the level of their economic cooperation.
"Kazakstan broadly uses the Ukrainian-made agricultural and municipal maintenance equipment and imports (Ukrainian) food. We, too, supplied our products to Ukraine. Our trade, which used to stand at $4 billion, dropped by a third, but we have a chance to return to previous figures," Nazarbayev said at the meeting, according to a statement issued by his press office.
"In this respect, the intergovernmental commission must work hard and find common points. I know that such opportunities exist," the president said.
For his part, Poroshenko stressed the need for the two countries to actively use their potential for cooperation in trade, economic, cultural and other key areas.
"We need to launch the intergovernmental commission which must help remove the barriers between our countries," the Ukrainian president said.
