Govt approves 2016-2025 Kurils development program
MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The Russian government has approved a federal target program fostering socioeconomic development of the Kuril Islands in the Sakhalin region in 2016-2025.
"The fulfillment of program tasks will ensure dynamic socioeconomic development of the Kuril Islands, higher purchasing power of the regional population and modernization of transport and social infrastructures, as well as spur development of processing industries," says a report posted on the government website.
The program is tasked to develop the economy, infrastructures and the social sector and thereby create attractive economic and living conditions for the population of the Kuril Islands.
