Dates for meeting between Syrian govt, opposition not set yet - ambassador to Russia
MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad has denied that a meeting between Syrian authorities and opposition members could be held in Moscow at the end of January.
"I do not confirm this information," Haddad told Interfax on Wednesday.
When asked whether the meeting could take place later than at the end of January, the ambassador said, "It can take place at any time, but its dates have still not been agreed upon. We are continuing consultations on the matter."
Mahmoud al-Hamza, the head of the Syrian opposition organization Damascus Declaration for Democratic Change in Syria, also told Interfax that he was unaware of a meeting between the Syrian government and opposition members in Moscow at the end of January.
"I do not possess such information. At the same time, I know that the National Coalition head, Hadi al-Bahra, said his organization had not received an official invitation to the meeting, and therefore so far they are not going to take part in it," he said.
