Togliattiazot owner Vladimir Makhlai arrested in absentia - court
MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Moscow's Basmanny Court ordered on Thursday that Vladimir Makhlai, the founder of Togliattiazot, which produces ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers, be arrested in absentia as part of a fraud inquiry.
Makhlai, who was declared internationally wanted, is currently outside of Russia.
According to documents presented at today's court session, Makhlai left for Switzerland in 2005 and has not returned to Russia since then.
On December 23, the district court supported a similar motion with regard to Togliattiazot Board Chairman, U.S. citizen Sergei Makhlai charged with large-scale fraud by a group of people. On December 24, the same court passed a judgment in absentia on the arrest of Andreas Zivy, owner of the Swiss company Ameropa AG.
