Military solution to conflict in Donbas doesn't exist - Poroshenko

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said there is no military solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"Martial law would be declared as soon as combat action begins," Poroshenko told a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, responding to a question as to when martial law would be introduced and when the Ukrainian army would begin its offensive.

"A military solution to the situation in Donbas doesn't exist. Those who want to play should take weapons in their hands and start fighting with the Russian military machine, the most powerful machine on the continent. See how it will end," he said, adding that an invasion would lead to the deaths of "hundreds of Ukrainian troops."
