Belarus repays $79.3 mln IMF stand-by tranche

MINSK. Dec 31 (Interfax) - Belarus has made a principal payment totaling $79.3 million on its stand-by facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

"Belarus on December 31 fulfilled its commitment on the IMF stand-by facility with a principal payment of 54.7 million SDR [special drawing rights], the equivalent of $79.3 million," the statement says.

Minsk's most recent payments on the loan were $79.7 million on December 22, $81.7 million on October 23, $81.6 million on September 30 and $82 million on September 23.

Belarus is due to repay $1.3 billion, including interest, to the IMF in 2014 against approximately $1.6 billion in 2013. It received the stand-by facility, which totaled 2.27 billion SDR ($3.5 billion), in the January 2009-April 2010 period.

Belarus has been a member of the IMF since 1992, and its quota at the beginning of 2013 was 386.4 million SDR or $542.1 million.
