Russian diplomat doubts that NATO will make objective reports on Afghanistan to UN

MOSCOW. Jan 1 (Interfax) - Russia doubts that the reports on the new non-combat NATOP operation in Afghanistan Resolute Support, which should be regularly made to the UN, will reflect the real situation with security in the country, Russian presidential special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said.

"The sides have agreed that NATO will report on its operation using approximately the same schemes as the International Security Assistance Force, making, as I understand, quarterly reports," he said in an interview with Interfax.

"However, these reports will not be objective. They will present a pretty picture on paper, but the real situation will be different," he said.

The diplomat said NATO has requested a very limited mandate from the UN Security Council for its new mission.

"They mainly have training functions. They will report on how many personnel they have trained, and that will be it. They bear no responsibility for what may occur in Afghanistan," Kabulov said.
