Unrecognized Karabakh reports three Azeri fatalities in shootout
YEREVAN. Jan 6 (Interfax) - The Azeri army committed approximately 320 violations of the ceasefire regime along the line of contact with the army of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the small hours of Tuesday, a source in the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Ministry press service told Interfax.
Over 5,000 shots were fired from weapons of varying calibers, as well as 60mm and 82mm RPG-7 grenade launchers at Karabakh positions, he said.
"Seeking to suppress the enemy activity, forward units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army returned fire killing at least three servicemen of the Azeri Armed Forces. According to credible reports, one of the killed servicemen was warrant officer Eldar Mamedov from the 703rd brigade of the Azeri army, and information about the others is being verified," the source said.
Sources from the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army told Interfax that two contract servicemen of Nagorno-Karabakh were killed in gunfire exchanges. There has been no formal confirmation to this report.
The Azeri Defense Ministry has denied the death of three servicemen on the frontline.
"The Defense Ministry affirms that claims of the alleged killing of three servicemen, among them the so-called "non-commissioned officer" Eldar Mamedov, are misinformation posted by the Armenian media," the ministry's press service told Interfax.
