Two rescue mini-subs to enter service with Russian Navy in 2015 - spokesman

MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Two new-generation manned submersibles are to enter service with the Russian Navy in 2015, Navy spokesman, Captain First Rank Igor Dygalo told the media.

"The two ARS-600 new-generation manned submersibles, to be assigned to the Russian Navy in 2015, will be used in search operations and in missions to examine sunken submarines at a depth of up to 1,000 meters. They have the capability of working at the depths assigned for eight hours without battery recharging," Dygalo said.

"Back in 2014, two ARS-600 mini-submarines were tested and assigned to the Russia Navy," he also said.

"Concurrently, a project is continuing to upgrade Project 1855 Priz autonomous rescue submersibles with a titanium body, intended for operations to search for and rescue submarine crews. Their working depth is over 500 meters," he said.

Four submersibles (the AS-26, AS-28, AS-30 and AS-34) have undergone scheduled repairs and in-depth modernization, and are re-entering service with the Russian Navy's search and rescue fleet, Dygalo said.
