Baku denies soldier's death in attempted incursion in Armenia
BAKU. Jan 12 (Interfax) - The Azeri Defense Ministry has refuted a report by the Armenian Defense Ministry alleging the death of an Azeri serviceman on the line of contact between the two armies.
"The allegations of Armenia that it has created conditions for the retrieval of a non-existent body of an Azeri serviceman from the line of contact and the alleged killing of an Armenian shepherd by the Azeri side in the same sector of the frontline are wrong," Azeri Defense Ministry spokesman Vagif Dargahli told Interfax.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said earlier it had prevented an incursion by Azeri servicemen on Sunday night.
The Armenian defense minister's press secretary Artsrun Hovhannisyan said the attempted incursion was prevented near the village of Baganis in the northeastern Tavush region.
"The Armenian servicemen traced the enemy's movement on time. The group which trespassed across the Armenian state border was neutralized. The body of a group member is lying between their positions. An 80-year-old shepherd was killed on the Armenian side," Hovhannisyan said.
Armenian servicemen have permitted Azerbaijan to retrieve the body of a soldier killed in an attempted incursion on Sunday, Hovhannisyan said on Monday.
