U.S. fast food chain Carl's Junior is closing restaurants in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk

ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 13 (Interfax) - U.S. fast food chain Carl's Junior is closing all its restaurants in St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk, the chain's Russian representative office told Interfax.

"The closure is connected with the difficult economic situation," a representative said, refraining from additional comments.

The closure of the sites, according to the representative, will begin on January 13. It is expected that the U.S. chain's restaurants in other Russian regions will continue to work.

At present in St. Petersburg there are 24 Carl's Junior locations and in Novosibirsk, there are four.

According to the company's website, in all of Russia the brand is represented by 47 restaurants, which are located, besides St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk, also in Nizhnevartovsk, Saratov, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Norilsk, Krasnogorsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Balakovo, Stavropol, Chita and Kemerovo.

Carl's Junior was established in the United States in 1941. At present the chain has about 3,500 restaurants around the world.
