Russia's new state armaments program to be submitted to president in 2015

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A state armaments program for 2016-2025 now under development is a follow-up to the current armaments program in terms of structure, and qualitative and quantitative parameters, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov told the media on Tuesday.

"We are to submit a new state armaments program to the president in 2015," he said.

"The first five-year period overlaps the second five-year period in the current program, and aims to bring the share of advanced weapons and military hardware to 70% by 2020 and to maintain this level until 2025," Borisov said.

"The new state armaments program differs from the previous one in that the types of weapons and military hardware will be sharply reduced, which will help keep the financial indices within the reasonable limits we have requested for this program," he said.

Financial indices will be improved "by cutting funding for technical maintenance, the training of personnel and the switchover to servicing weapons compliant with the life cycle principle," Borisov said.

"Therefore the industry will get all repair assets which currently belong to the Defense Ministry," he said.
