Russian diplomat, Iraqi ambassador discuss situation in Iraq, combat against terrorist groups

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and presidential representative for the Middle East and African countries Mikhail Bogdanov and Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Ismieal Shafiq Muhsin discussed measures to oppose the Islamic State terrorist group at a meeting in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

Bogdanov and Muhsin "discussed the situation in the Middle East region, with an emphasis placed on the situation in Iraq and efficient countermeasures against the Islamic State and other terrorist groups," it said.

"Relevant aspects of the further development of Russian-Iraqi bilateral relations in various fields were touched upon during the conversation," it said.
