South Korean cargo plane makes emergency landing in Novosibirsk

MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - A South Korean cargo plane has made an emergency landing in Novosibirsk due to smoke in the cabin, a source in the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) told Interfax on Tuesday evening.

The crew of an Asiana Airlines Boeing 747 en route from Oslo to Seoul reported smoke in the cabin and decided to land in Novosibirsk, the source said.

"Airport services were alerted and the plane touched down at 10:40 p.m. A Rosaviatsiya commission is investigating this contingency by ICAO standards," he noted.

The plane had four crewmembers aboard; tentative reports said they were unharmed.

It was a transport plane, the source added. In his words, "the nature and quantity of cargo will be checked during the inquiry."
