Ukrainian army, militia trade shelling accusations, claim casualties
DONETSK/KYIV. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army committed over 80 violations of the ceasefire regime in Donbas in the past 24 hours, the militia said, adding that the shelling had taken the lives of civilians. The army accused the militia of 75 attacks and the use of Buratino flame-thrower systems.
"The army breached the truce 82 times. As far as we know, five civilians were killed and another 15 suffered injuries of varying degrees. The Kyivsky, Kuibyshevsky and Petrovsky districts were shelled," a representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) militia command told Interfax on Wednesday.
He said the Ukrainian army was using cannons and rocket artillery.
"There have been civilian casualties in the shelling of the Donetsk Kyivsky and Kuibyshevsky districts: one person was killed and eight suffered injuries of varying severity," the Novorossiya front staff said. "Also, one DPR servicemen was killed and two were injured last night."
"The situation along the contact line between DPR and LPR units and the Ukrainian army has markedly worsened. The Ukrainian army systematically shelled militia positions and civilian infrastructures. At least 25 shooting incidents were recorded," the staff said.
DPR positions in the Donetsk airport area were shelled five times from the direction of Avdiivka, Opytne and Piski over the past day. A number of LPR and DPR populated areas, including the suburbs of Luhansk and Donetsk, were bombarded last night, the staff added.
