Russian Navy's task force in Mediterranean undergoes rotation

ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The large landing ships the Yamal of the Black Sea Fleet and the Alexander Shabalin of the Baltic Fleet have joined the Russian Navy task force in the Mediterranean Sea, a source in the Navy Staff told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

"The Yamal and the Alexander Shabalin started to carry out the Navy's task force's work plan in the Mediterranean today," he noted.

The Northern Fleet's large landing ship Alexander Otrakovsky departed from the Mediterranean Sea for Novorossiysk in the Black Sea on Tuesday.

The source added that the large landing ship Saratov and the Black Sea Fleet's support vessel KIL-158 joined the task force a week ago.

The task force has recently been joined by the Black Sea Fleet's floating workshop PM-138, which will replace a similar vessel, the PM-56, in the Syrian port of Tartous on Friday.
