Two men executed by Islamic State militants in Syria not Kazakh citizens - National Security Committee
ASTANA. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Two men whose execution was filmed and released by Islamic State militants were not citizens of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh National Security Committee said in a press release on Thursday.
"Agencies of the National Security Committee took all necessary investigative measures in response to a video posted on the Internet that shows the execution of two men who allegedly were agents of special services and natives of Kazakhstan. It has been reliably confirmed that the persons shown in this video are not citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the committee.
Under the Kazakh Penal Code, people convicted of intentionally spreading false information that poses a threat to public order or the legitimate interests of citizens and organizations may be ordered to pay a fine of up to 1,000 times the Kazakh monthly calculated index, or may be sentenced to correctional labor, freedom restrictions for up to one year, or a prison sentence of up to one year.
Kazakhstan's monthly calculated index stands at 1,982 tenge.
Today's official exchange rate is 183.55 tenge/$1.
The National Security Committee called on Kazakh media outlets to treat all reprints and references to comments and articles in unofficial foreign sources carefully.
According to earlier reports, the Kazakh National Security Committee was studying the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) video showing the execution of two men in Syria.
Islamic State extremists claimed that the men executed in Syria were officers of the Russian security services.
A number of media outlets reported that the men were questioned about their attempted infiltration into the Islamic State and one of them said before the execution that he was a citizen of Kazakhstan.
