Prosecutors satisfied with evidence given by Serdyukov in court - source
MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The state prosecutors working on the case involving former Defense Minister official Yevgeniya Vasilyeva and other suspects of the Oboronservice case are satisfied with the results of the questioning in court of former defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov.
"The former minister essentially confirmed in court what had been determined during the preliminary investigation and said what the state prosecutors wanted to hear. Namely, that he had fully trusted his subordinate and had left her virtually without control," a source with knowledge on the situation told Interfax on Friday.
During the cross-questioning in the Moscow Presnensky Court on Thursday, Serdyukov admitted that he had fully trusted Vasilyeva, the source said.
"In the meantime, a Russian saying says 'Trust, but verify.' Unfortunately, the former minister did not establish tough control over the activities by the head of the property relations department, which he had a duty to do," the source said, citing a state prosecutor.
On Wednesday, Serdyukov said in court he had trusted Vasilyeva, former head of the Defense Ministry property relations department.
According to the indictment, Vasilyeva misled Serdyukov into committing crimes.
