Militia claim taking full control of Donetsk airport

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The militia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic (DPR) have claimed to oust the last groups of Ukrainian government troops from the Donetsk airport.

"About 20 Ukrainian troops remained on the Donetsk airport territory yesterday. The last five people were knocked out by the evening. At the present time, the airport is fully under our control, and there is not a single Ukrainian serviceman on its territory," the DPR defense ministry told Interfax on Saturday morning.

At the same time, a significant amount of Ukrainian forces is being pulled toward the airport from the nearby communities, a ministry spokesperson said.

"There are significant amounts of Ukrainian troops [coming] from the direction of the village of Pisky and also near Avdiyivka. All of them are being pulled toward the airport. Kyiv is concentrating forces there," he said.
