Monaco is home to 500 Russians - minister of state
MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The Principality of Monaco confirms its invariable hospitality regarding Russians and its high interest in Russian investment, Monaco's minister of state, Michel Roger, said in an interview with Interfax.
"The population of Russian citizens has been increasing in Monaco, where 500 Russians permanently reside now. We welcome all Russians arriving in Monaco," he said after a visit to Moscow as leader of a representative delegation.
"Our relations are well established and are maintained through contacts between the chambers of commerce and banks, and in the insurance sphere. We undoubtedly welcome Russian investment in Monaco and work to encourage Monegascan citizens' investment in Russia," Roger said.
The delegation's visit to Russia was timed to coincide with the beginning of the Year of Russia and Monaco.
"The decision to hold the Year of Russia was made jointly by Prince Albert II and President Vladimir Putin in October 2013 to demonstrate strong cultural, economic, scientific and environmental ties between the two countries, established a long time ago," he said.
Russians usually arrive in Monaco with their families - the wives and children, and children study at local schools, he also said.
"Monaco, a principality with an area of about two square kilometers, is home to 129 nationalities which get along very well," Roger said.
