DPR claims to have taken Piski under control

DONETSK/KYIV. Jan 19 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic army has taken control of Piski and mounted an attack on Avdiivka, a source in the Donetsk administration said.

"The DPR army is fully controlling Piski. There is no information about fatalities for now. We are also attacking Avdiivka," head of the Donetsk Kyivskyi and Kuibyshevskyi district administrations Ivan Prikhodko told Interfax.

According to Ukrainian presidential advisor Yuriy Biryukov, the Ukrainian army has repelled a flank attack of militia tanks in Piski.

"There had been a flanking maneuver of tanks but we deterred it. Grad rocket launchers kept bombing Piski over the past day; [shells] were flying above our heads all day long," Biryukov wrote on Facebook.

An Interfax correspondent reported earlier that the Putilovsky bridge connecting the Kuibyshevskyi and Kyivskyi districts of the city and linking Donetsk to the roads to Yasynuvata and Avdiivka was destroyed by heavy artillery guns in confrontations between the DPR militia and the Ukrainian army yesterday afternoon.
