Full-fledged Russia-EU cooperation is impossible without lifting sanctions - Russian source

Moscow, January 20 (Interfax) - Russia regrets that the European Union is not ready to lift the anti-Russian sanctions and believes full-fledged cooperation with the EU is impossible without that, a Russian diplomatic source told Interfax on Tuesday.

"On one hand, we see the stated unpreparedness to lift the sanctions, which is regrettable because full-fledged interaction with the EU is impossible if the sanctions stay in place," the source said, commenting on the outcome of the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.

"We have always expressed and confirmed our readiness for full-fledged interaction with the EU. No doubt, the sanctions aggravate this mutually profitable perspective," he said.

At the same time, the source said Russia is registering certain signals of the EU readiness for dialogue on some issues.

"We see certain signals in terms of further political dialogue on a whole range of issues that present mutual interest to the EU and to us," the source said.
