Iranian DM: Russia, Iran to counteract interference of external forces in regional affairs
TEHRAN. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russia and Iran will cooperate in the prevention of interference of external forces in regional affairs, Iranian Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Minister Brigadier General Hosein Dehqan said at the end of negotiations with his Russian colleague Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu who had been paying an official visit to Tehran.
"We view the ongoing visit and the agreement we have just signed as a foundation of comprehensive military cooperation between the two countries in various spheres," Dehqan said.
In his words, the negotiations highlighted an analysis of the joint fight against terrorism and causes of escalating tensions in the region one of which is the destructive policy of the United States "interfering in internal affairs of other nations."
"The need to foster cooperation between Russia and Iran in the joint prevention of interference of external forces in regional affairs was emphasized," Dehqan said.
"The situation in the region and the world requires that powerful Russia and powerful Iran jointly promote strengthening of international security and regional stability," he said.
The Iranian defense minister hopes that Tuesday's negotiations "would be carried on and have the most favorable effect on the regional and global situation."
