Gen. Krush: Russia may offer Antei-2500 as S-300 substitute to Iran
MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia may offer Iran a better air defense system, Antei-2500, as a substitute for S-300 systems it has not supplied, former Russian Ground Forces air defense commander Maj. Gen. Mikhail Krush told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"The process of offering Iran an alternative to the S-300 air defense missile system has been on for over a year. Government representatives visited Iran and made offers last year. I suppose they are speaking about the Antei-2500 air defense missile system, which not just matches the S-300 system but even surpasses it by some parameters," Krush said.
Iran was offered a new missile defense system, S-300V4, after the S-300 delivery came to an impasse and S-300PMU was no longer in production, he said. "The export modification of that system is called Antei-2500," the general added.
