Lavrov: No plans to discuss Iran on Munich Security Conference sidelines

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said he will take part in the Munich Security Conference in early February and there are no plans to hold a ministerial meeting on Iran on the conference sidelines.

"No, there cannot be a ministerial level right away. Probably, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif meant that the Munich Security Conference would be held in that period and the P5+1 ministers and Javad Zarif happened to plan to take part in it. I also plan to be there. But it is not a fact it would be right to meet just because we happen to be in the same place at the same time. We shall see for how long the work at the level of political directors will have last by then," Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"We shall see how useful a ministerial meeting will be [at that moment] from the point of view of the need to push outstanding issues and give a political impetus to their technical resolution. No one has made this decision so far," Lavrov said.
