Ukrainian Defense Ministry: 18 servicemen killed on Jan 17-22

KYIV. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Eighteen Ukrainian military servicemen were killed and 235 others injured in armed clashes with militiamen in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions from January 17 to 22, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry press service reported on Saturday.

"Also one tank, 7 armored fighting vehicles, 2 MT-12 cannons, and 7 automobiles have been lost," it said.

As many as 600 militiamen were killed and 175 wounded within the same period of time, it said.

The defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic (DPR) claimed on Friday that 752 Ukrainian government troops had been killed over the previous several days.

"Since the start of the special operation, 752 [Ukrainian government forces] servicemen have been killed and 59 tanks and 51 armored fighting vehicles and personnel carriers destroyed," DPR defense ministry political directorate chief Eduard Basurin told journalists on Friday.
