Prominent Russian rights advocate calls for sending UN peacekeepers to eastern Ukraine
MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Lyudmila Alexeyeva, the head of the Moscow Helsinki Group, believes the sending of UN peacekeeping forces to eastern Ukraine could help stop the armed conflict.
"There is no progress. Time to send UN troops," Alexeyeva told Interfax on Tuesday.
"If they can't reach an agreement, let them be brought to peace from the outside by those whom the United Nations would send," she said.
"I've never thought I would live to see this. It's terrible. You think each time it can't be worse, but then it turns out it can," Alexeyeva said in describing the situation in eastern Ukraine.
