Medvedev: social support during crisis must be targeted, not thoughtless
GORKI. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Social support during the crisis must be targeted, not thoughtless, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said during a teleconference with regional governors on measures to ensure stable economic development and social stability in 2015.
"We would like to immediately point you in the right direction, but overall, I think, you know full well, that the support must not be thoughtless. It must be targeted," Medvedev said.
"We have a warped benefits system, it was formed in the Soviet period, and we dragged it already for the entire period of recent history, for the last 25 years. And in a number of cases, the benefits are received by people who don't need any benefits. On the other hand, some categories of citizens don't receive them, despite the fact that maybe they should receive them," Medvedev said.
He said that it is necessary to consider all of this. Therefore the resolution of these issues will be the responsibility of both the federal government and the governments of Russian regions.
