Senior Russian diplomat talks to UN Syria envoy

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov had a telephone conversation on Wednesday with UN special envoy for the Syria crisis Staffan de Mistura, who told the Russian official of "his contacts with Syrian parties in seeking so-called local freezes in Aleppo," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian side confirmed its fundamental support for the efforts of de Mistura and his teams in the context of achieving the earliest possible settlement for the military and political crisis in Syria," the ministry said in a statement.
