Russian envoy to EU, head of EU Delegation to Russia to meet in Brussels
BRUSSELS. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Permanent Representative at the European Union Vladimir Chizhov has informed journalists of his plans to have a business dinner with the Head of the EU Delegation to Russia Vygaudas Usackas in Brussels on Thursday.
"We will discuss the situation of our relations and what we should do with them to overcome our difficulties," Chizhov said.
He said Usackas is playing a significant role in maintaining communication between the EU and Russia.
"He [Usackas] is the main source of information on the situation in our country for European institutions, primarily for the European External Action Service and the European Commission. And, certainly, he serves as a link. He regularly visits the Foreign Ministry to discuss not only our bilateral relations but also issues on the international agenda that are of interest to the European Union," he said.
Chizhov said he was glad to have the chance to share opinions with Usackas during a meeting of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Russia, which took place at the European Parliament earlier in the day and at which both ambassadors spoke, and suggested he would like to continue this exchange at their working dinner.
