West should pay attention to human rights abuses in Ukraine - Dolgov

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Commissioner Konstantin Dolgov has accused the West of pandering to radical nationalists and urged it to pay attention to reports on human rights abuses by the Ukrainian authorities.

"International NGOs (non-governmental organizations) should seek inquiries into gross violations of human rights, especially during the punitive operation in the South-East. So far (we are seeing) the same double standards and the dangerous pandering to radical nationalists and the neo-Nazis," Dolgov wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The ombudsman called on the West to pay attention to human rights campaigners' reports exposing "obvious crimes against humanity" by the Ukrainian authorities.

Dolgov stressed that in its last report Human Rights Watch (HRW), an international human rights organization, pointed to arbitrary arrests, kidnappings and torture committed by the Aidar battalion, shelling of densely populated areas and use of Grad rockets and cluster munitions.

"HRW has confirmed mass violations by Ukrainian authorities of the law and customs of war, which led to huge civilian losses," he said.
