Moscow meetings should lead to Damascus talks - Syrian official
MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - Representatives of the Syrian authorities want their Moscow consultations with opponents of Bashar al-Assad to eventually lead to negotiations in Damascus, said Bashar Jaafari, the head of the government delegation to the talks and Syria's Ambassador to the United Nations.
"We hope that a meeting in Damascus will be final destination for these consultation meetings," he told a press conference in Moscow.
Asked whether it means that the next meeting between the government and the opposition could take place in Damascus, Jaafari said: "I did not say the next meeting will be in Damascus. What I mean is that our intention is for the final meeting to be in Damascus."
"Our Russian friends think that the next consultation meeting will be in Moscow," he added.
