Putin greets Mattarella on being elected Italian president
MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of greeting to Sergio Mattarella on being elected the president of Italy, the Kremlin press service reports.
Putin stressed that Russian-Italian relations are based on long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual respect and also on close trade and economic cooperation. The president also praised the coordination of the two countries in tackling issues from the international agenda.
"The president of Russia expressed confidence in retaining and multiplying the positive potential of Russian-Italian ties in all directions in the interests of the people of the two countries, with the purpose of guaranteeing stability, security and prosperity on the European continent and in the world as a whole," a report of the press service says.
