Chizhov accuses European media of aggressive anti-Russia campaign

BRUSSELS. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's permanent envoy to the European Union, said the anti-Russia campaign in the European media is hardly in line with the principles of freedom of speech.

"An aggressive anti-Russia campaign continues in the European media," the diplomat said at an international conference on Russia-EU relations held in the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences held in Brussels on Monday.

Lavrov said representatives of European society and public figures who support the improvement of relations with Russia are pressured in the media, which allege that their position harms European unity.

"It's hard to understand how this agrees with the European principles of diversity and freedom of opinion,' Chizhov said.
