Crimea tourism revenue exceeds 100 billion rubles in 2014 - Rosturism
MOSCOW. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Crimea made 107 billion rubles on tourism in 2014, Oleg Safonov, the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturism), said.
"In 2014, Crimea was visited by 4.1 million tourists. The region's tourism revenues reached 107 billion rubles," Safonov told a press conference in the main office of Interfax on Wednesday.
According to Safonov, the number of citizens travelling within Russia went up by over 30% in 2014, reaching 41.5 million. The popular tourist destinations included Crimea, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and also the resort Sheregesh, in the Altai Territory, which was visited by 1 million tourists.
Safonov said the Russian regions should give special attention to the development of the tourist infrastructure.
"One of the most important tourist destinations is Kamchatka. In 2014, it was visited by 50,000 tourists, including 14,000 foreign tourists. Alaska, which is nearby, was visited by 2 million people. Our task is to increase tourist flows dramatically, But we need to make a landing dock for big cruise liners, which are now just passing by our territory," he said.
