Yerevan expresses readiness to exchange data on MIA during Karabakh conflict

YEREVAN. Feb 4 (Interfax) - The Armenian Defense Ministry is ready to cooperate with the Azerbaijani side on data exchanges on troops who are missing in action (MIA) during the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, First Deputy Dense Minister David Tonoian has said.

"In the framework of my powers and under the aegis of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) the Armenian Defense Ministry is ready to cooperate with the Azerbaijani side on data exchanges on persons missing as a result of the Karabakh conflict," he said at a meeting of the ICRC delegation in Armenia Sarah Epprecht.

At the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry Interfax was told that Tonoian said that such cooperation "will be directed at enforcing norms of international humanitarian law."

In turn Epprecht said that one of the priorities of the ICRC is to clarify the fate of some 4,500 MIA as a result of the Karabakh conflict.
