Richard Miles appointed interim chief of mission at embassy to Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Ambassador Richard Miles has been appointed charge d'affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy to Bishkek, the embassy told journalists on Thursday.
"Ambassador Miles will serve on a temporary basis until the U.S. Senate confirms a permanent U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic. His exact date of arrival has not yet been set, but he is expected [to] arrive within the coming weeks," says the statement available on the embassy website.
Miles served as the U.S. ambassador to Georgia from 2002-2005. Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze had earlier accused Miles of organizing the so-called Rose Revolution, which brought Mikheil Saakashvili to power. Miles left Shevardnadze's accusations without comment.
