Casualties in shelling of chemical plant by Ukrainian army - DPR
DONETSK. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Projectiles fired by the Ukrainian army last night hit the Adminploshchadka area, the location of the Donetsk chemical plant, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) defense ministry said.
"The explosion occurred in the Adminploshchadka neighborhood, the location of a state-run chemical plant. An inquiry is in progress and the search for projectile fragments is on. Some have been wounded but there are no fatalities," Eduard Basurin of the Defense Ministry of the DPR told reporters.
In his opinion, the artillery attack might have been targeting the Donetsk airport or city infrastructures. "If the shells were fired by a Tochka-U system, then their target was the airport. If these are artillery projectiles, then they wanted to damage city infrastructures," he said.
"This is a rather old plant, which has been used to scrap munitions but it is much too early to speak about any environmental damage the overnight fire may have caused," the senior official stated.
