Ukraine military officials to inspect Rostov region's district near border

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - Ukrainian military officials, acting under bilateral agreements with Russia, will inspect one of the districts in Russia's southern Rostov region, which borders Ukraine, from February 9 to February 12 for possible military activity there, Sergei Ryzhkov, head of the Russian Defense Ministry's department for control over treaty implementation, told Interfax.

"In accordance with the 2011 Vienna document aimed at boosting confidence building measures and security, the Defense Ministry of Russia has arranged for representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to inspect this district in southern Russia from February 9 to February 12," he said.

The area to be inspected by Ukraine is approximately 15,000 square kilometers, he added.

"Such inspections are aimed at determining the scope of ongoing military activity subject to notification or confirming the absence of such activity within the district in question," Ryzhkov said.

The command of Russian Armed Forces units stationed in this district will give a briefing for Ukraine's military specialists, he said.

The last inspection conducted by Ukrainian military officials under the 2011 Vienna document took place on the territory of Russia's Belgorod and Kursk regions in March 2014. It did not detect any violations on the part of Russia.
