U.S. demands to free Ukrainian pilot Savchenko groundless - Russian Security Council secretary

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The United States calls on Russia to free Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko from detention are groundless, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

"I wonder how Washington would react if it were urged to free a spotter directed at American citizens," Patrushev said in an interview to be published in Rossiiskaya Gaseta on Wednesday.

U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Jen Psaki urged Russia to free Savchenko several days ago, Patrushev said.

Savchenko is being held under arrest in Moscow on charges of complicity in the killing of Russian journalists in Ukraine.
