Advocates of anti-Russian sanctions policy wrong about efficiency - Ryabkov

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - The sanctions imposed by European countries against Russia will have no effect, just like similar measures had no effect on the development of the Iranian nuclear program, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

"The pursuers of this (sanctions) policy have false ideas about potential efficiency of sanctions against Russia," he said at an event held at Moscow State Institute of International Relations on the occasion of the Diplomat's Day on Wednesday.

"The sanctions won't produce the expected result, the authors of this policy should understand that at the end of the day the result of applying and spreading sanctions is the direct opposite of the one they are expecting," the high-ranking Russian diplomat said.

"These people are doing harm to themselves," he said.

"I don't know how much time they will need to realize this reality," the diplomat said.
