Russian presidential ombudsman criticizes Rada's decision to strip Russian journalists of accreditation
MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada's decision to deprive some Russian journalists of accreditation is erroneous, says Russian presidential Human Rights Council head Mikhail Fedotov.
"This decision is counterproductive," Fedotov told Interfax on Thursday.
The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada passed a resolution on Thursday to suspend the accreditation of journalists and technical staff of some Russian media outlets with Ukrainian government bodies.
"It is important in the current conditions for all government bodies, both Ukrainian and Russian ones, to act as openly as possible. Any attempt to fight with journalists, an attempt to shut the door before them, always backfires on those who do this," Fedotov said.
"A lack of information always leads to a situation in which inventions and other fantasies appear instead of precise information. If you want information about you to be impartial, you should admit journalists. It's wrong to put obstacles to them," Fedotov said.
