Freight One set to boost freight volumes on rail transit through Lithuania
MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Vladimir Lisin's rail freight operator Freight One and Lithuanian railways Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai are ready to conclude an agreement on freight forwarding in Lithuania, Freight One said in a press release.
"The agreement will enable Freight One to offer expeditor services to an additional freight base and make it possible to offer freight shipment at competitive rates on transit shipments through Lithuania," the press release says. Issues related to the organization of international rail freight shipment was discussed at a working meeting between Freight One CEO Oleg Bukin and LG chief Stasys Dailydka.
The sides also discussed plans for transit of freight from key Freight One clients through Lithuania and the terms for technical servicing and repair of company rolling stock there. "Cooperation with the Lithuanian colleagues will enable us to develop promising directions, toward the ports of Kaliningrad and Klaipeda," Bukin is quoted in the press release as saying.
Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai provides rail connections between the EU and CIS. The company's infrastructure includes ice free ports on the Baltic, 12 sea terminals and 68 rail stations, giving it the ability to service all types of freight. Lithuania's rail network consists of 1,749 kilometers of Russian gauge (1,520 mm) lines and 22 kilometers of European gauge (1,435 mm) lines.
