Russia to keep working for peace in Ukraine - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Russia "will continue to take a highly pro-active part" in efforts to settle the crisis in eastern Ukraine and appreciates the involvement of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande in this process, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

"Russia will continue to take a highly pro-active part in trying to settle the crisis in eastern Ukraine in seeking the earliest possible ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons, and a stable dialogue between Kyiv and Donbas. We value the energetic involvement of the chancellor of Germany and president of France in the negotiation process. This helped bring about the fruitful completion, literally several hours ago, of the Normandy format meeting in Minsk," Lavrov said at an event in Moscow.
