Rosneft, Bashneft and Gazprom Neft sets sights on Angola

MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Rosneft is looking at projects in Angola, according to the protocol to a meeting of the Russian-Angolan intergovernmental commission.

"The sides welcome Rosneft's intention to develop cooperation with Angolan national oil company Sonangol in the area of studying potential joint development of oil and gas fields in Angola and Russia," the protocol says.

Press service of Russian Ministry of Natural Recourses and Environmental says that Bashneft and Gazprom Neft are also express intention of joint development projects with Angola.

It was reported earlier that a Rosneft delegation visited Angola, Africa's second biggest oil producer after Nigeria, in April 2014. It has 1.7 billion tonnes of proven oil reserves and a resource portfolio of up to 3.5 billion tonnes, with liquid hydrocarbons predominating. Angola mainly develops fields under production-sharing agreements; Sonangol has a stake in the majority of them.

Nearly all the fields in production are offshore fields, accounting for 75% of national production. They are concentrated in the Lower Congo Basin. The biggest fields are located in deep water.

In connection with the major discoveries of recent years - Kizomba, Xikomba, Girassol, Dalia, Greater Plutonio, and others - the most promising zone for exploration is considered the deepwater and ultra-deepwater territory in the Lower Congo and Kwanza basins (in waters 600-2,500 meters deep).
