Russia boosts agricultural output 2.8% in January - Rosstat
MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Russia increased output of agricultural production by 141.2 billion rubles or 2.8% in January 2015 year-on-year, Rosstat said on Wednesday, citing preliminary data.
Production of livestock and poultry (live weight) totaled 1 million tonnes, 6.6% more than in January. Milk production rose 1.6% to 1.9 million tonnes and egg production increased 0.5% to 3.3 billion eggs.
The cattle population at all categories of farms totaled 19.3 head as of the end of January (2.1% less than a year earlier), including 8.5 million cows (1.9% less). The hog population was up 1.7% to 19.9 million head and the sheep and goat population edged up 0.2% to 24.4 million.
Household farms accounted for 44.4% of the cattle, 17.7% of the hogs and 47% of the sheep and goats as of the end of January, compared with 44.6%, 20.3% and 47.2% a year earlier.
