Donetsk militias claim to have removed almost all weaponry from quiet areas
MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The armed forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have removed almost all heavy weapons from the quiet parts of the battlefront, the DPR defense ministry said.
"The Minsk agreements stipulate 14 days maximum to remove heavy weaponry. If everything goes to plan, we might achieve it sooner," the ministry said on Wednesday, according to the Donestk news agency.
On the contact line, where no active fighting was taking place, weapons will be removed within three to four days, the ministry said.
"Up to now, multiple rocket launchers and howitzer batteries, as well as a tank brigade, have only been removed around Starobesheve," the ministry said.
A day earlier the ministry claimed it was ready to remove artillery weapons from certain areas.
"We are going to start removing artillery weapons in those areas where the truce is upheld," Eduard Basurin of the Defense Ministry of the DPR said.
