Russia commits itself to equip South Ossetia-Georgia border - President Tibilov

TSKHINVALI. Feb 19 (Interfax) - The Russian Federation has reaffirmed the sovereignty of South Ossetia with the bilateral treaty on state borders, South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov told Interfax on Thursday.

"This treaty is another confirmation of the Russian policy towards South Ossetia. Russia sees South Ossetia as an independent and sovereign state," Tibilov said.

Russia commits itself to equip the entire state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia, he added.

"Given that border and customs services will leave the Russian-South Ossetian border, it will be necessary to reinforce borders between South Ossetia and Georgia. This means the state border needs to be equipped along its entire perimeter of 365 kilometers consistent with modern standards," the president said.
