Russian, Ukrainian military coordinating arms removal in Donbas - Russian general
MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Russian and Ukrainian military representatives have agreed upon a plan for removal of heavy weapons in southeastern Ukraine.
"Together with our Ukrainian colleagues at the joint center we have agreed upon a sector-by-sector plan for removal of weapons by the warring sides to a safe distance," Lt. Gen. Alexander Lentsov, who leads the Russian group coordinating ceasefire, told the Vesti program on the Russia One (Rossiya 1) television channel on Thursday.
Both sides have demonstrated willingness to remove heavy weapons as quickly as possible, he said.
"I can confirm the mutual interest of all sides in a swift organized removal of artillery systems from the contact line in accordance with the September 19 Minsk agreements and the agreements of February 12," the general said.
He urged the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) mission in Ukraine to closely cooperate with the joint center for ceasefire control and coordination to ensure full and swift implementation of all points of the Minsk accords.
