Russian senators to issue special statement on Ukraine
MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Federation Council will issue a statement on Ukraine next Wednesday, February 25, says Konstantin Kosachyov, the head of the upper house's Foreign Affairs Committee.
"On February 25 we will issue a special statement on Ukraine. A year has passed since the well-known events in Maidan, and in our view, it is a good reason to analyze this year and its outcomes, as well as the state Ukraine is now in," he said.
The second, no less important reason that will be reflected in the statement are the Minsk agreements, he said. "These agreements need any possible support. And if we can, as the upper house of the Russian parliament, provide support on the issue of getting all conflicting parties to comply with the agreements, and if we can signal to them that these agreements must be strictly abided by both in spirit and in letter, then we simply must do that. That is the point of our statement," Kosachyov said.
